Anna and Jamal's wedding was more than that, though. It was truly among the loveliest I've ever seen.
Given similar leanings toward all things natural, Anna, owner of Loop Flowers in San Francisco, and I have worked on quite a few weddings together, and every time, it's not just the beauty of her work that stands out, it's also her warm, friendly energy that is rare and refreshing in an industry where day-of pressure can get the best of folks.
Early last year she reached out with exciting news of her own wedding plans and asked me to be her baker. Beyond the huge flattery of this important job (and whisper of fear of baking for a fellow industry person), I was so honored and thrilled to be a part of this special union.
Given Anna's own busy season of flowering, she and Jamal chose a late Autumn day for their wedding luncheon at The Commissary in San Francisco's Presidio. For dessert, they chose a trio of cakes including: olive oil with sweet mascarpone cream filling and organic strawberries, lemon with blueberries and chocolate stout with a nocino caramel and cream cheese frosting. Anna left me with an assortment of fall botanicals including branches of persimmon and angel vine with simple instructions for styling: "think fruit still life."
