For better or worse, every season has it's unforgettable moments like that time in my early days when I fainted during the ceremony of one of my best friend's wedding. Or the day my car overheated and broke down (wedding cake in tow) during the peak of tourist season in Fisherman's Wharf. (I'll elaborate on those tales another day...)
When it comes to noteworthy deliveries, however, my 2017 wedding season takes the cake.
First, there was that day in late summer when I delivered (at 25 weeks pregnant) three buttercream cakes in record high temps (117 degrees fahrenheit, to be exact), and successfully, I might add:) (#moststressfuldayever)
A few months later, there was our eight-day wildfire evacuation (at 33 weeks pregnant) when we came back to our smoke-filled town (face masks on!), gathered up all of my baking supplies and baked offsite in SF (shout-out to, Emily Butler, for sharing her kitchen) for back-to-back wedding weekends (#mostexhaustingweekever).
And then there was my final delivery of the season, which happened just after midnight, in the wee hours of December 16th, when my baby girl, "Lucy James" McKenzie Sweeney arrived, in what I'll always remember as both the hardest and most satisfying, joy-filled delivery of my life.
While it's been four weeks since I officially met my little nugget, she was with me every step of the way during my 2017 season, baking and delivering 50+ cakes, surviving wildfires and sweating it out through the heat waves like a pro.
And something tells me this is only the beginning of our baking together, but hopefully the last of our wildfires and heat waves.
